Lo2 Task 3 Proposed Scheduling Time

I would like the show to be on two days in the week; Wednesday and Friday. The show will be between 7-8pm as it is a peak time when people are in the house after work and possibly having dinner, so we be able to sit down or continue work whilst listening to the show. It will go after the show Spirit of the Wappentake, so that people listening to their rock influenced show will be able to carry on listening if they want it hear punk music. One of the shows afterwards is Aap Ki Awaz so it will push the show an hour later, or cut it short an hour.

Lo2 Task 3 Legal and Ethical Issues

Copyright is a legal right created by the lawmakers of a country which grants the creator of the original work exclusive rights to the distribution of it. A PRS License will cost £300 which is needed for the Punk is Dead show. It will allow us to play all the copyrighted music that we would need to play on the show. This is vital as we will be playing music from signed record labels, like The Clash and The Seeds, as well we will use jingles that use music from signed and popular artists so we will need the PRS license and possibly permission from the label. For unsigned bands we will need permission from the artist, and we would need to check if they are signed up to PRS for the money that the band would earn from the content we play. This would be obtained from the advertisements on the show. However Sheffield Live! will have a PRS license.

We will abide by OFCOM regulations by not being offensive, this includes no racism, sexism and discriminate content. We also would not promote inappropriate material and/or activity. We will not use explicit language, even though our show is not targeted at younger people, due to the time we will air the show, it means children may be listening, so it would be incredibly irresponsible to use inappropriate language.

Our Phone-ins, quizzes and interviews will be recorded before the show. If any language that will break OFCOM rules is used then we will either edit it out, or if it is too drastic we will not use that voice clip in the show so that we receive no repercussions from OFCOM. All legal and ethical issues will be addressed at production meetings that will happen before the show, so that we are very clear on the content we will be putting out to the public.

LO2 Task 3 Script

Name of production: Punk is Dead
Presenter names: Alex Raynes, Will Hewitt
Punk is Dead
Dialogue/ FX/ MUSIC information

Jingle Fades in then out
Alex
Welcome to Punk is Dead on Sheffield Live! Sheffield Lives! Only show dedicated to punk rock. I’m Alex
Will
And I’m Will
Alex
We’ve got a lot planned for todays show

Will
There’s going to be some great tracks from all the decades today to kick off our first show
Alex
We’ve got our first quiz on the show, I’m gonna be asking 15 questions to Will about modern punk and you can try your best to beat him in the next 3 shows.
Will
All you have to do to take part is submit your name, address and phone number via email to punkisdead@sheffieldlive.com

Alex
And you could be in with a chance to win tickets to the gig of your choice at the leadmill.  This months category is Modern punk, and it’ll change every month. But anyway, today
Will
Today we’re gonna be talking about a band that are regarded as one of the best ever in Punk rock
Alex
Yeah, London Calling often put at the top of Punks best albums, so it’s the Clash that we’ll be talking about

Will
We’re also gonna ask you a question that we want some of your feedback to later in the show.
Alex
Right the first track is from one of the most infamous bands that have ever been around
Will
These guys stormed the scene when they first came under the spotlight, but not always in a positive way
Alex
Criticised heavily by some people high up in the government for being a detrimental influence to modern society

Alex
There only studio album got a ton of record shops in trouble because of the obscenities on the front

Will
But for us punk fans they’ve been one of the largest influences on the genre and modern punk owes a huge amount to them
Alex
They helped make people realise you don’t need to be as talented as Jimi Hendrix or Paul McCartney to be in a band and have an influence on society
Will
Most people would watch Jimmy Page on TV and dream of being in a band like him, but didn’t think they could because they weren’t insane guitarists
Alex
But the Pistols showed that you only need a few power chords to blast out some songs
Will
And every one of them on their album is one to remember, even having a dig at a record label on their last track. Not a song that EMI will forget
Alex
Unfortunately for us they only lasted one album before the death of their bassist Sid Vicious in New York in 1979
Will
Yeah that marked the end of the band but not the end of their legacy
Alex
It might have taken a bit of time for people to see that they were more than just anarchists and actually had quite a bit to say on current affairs, but they do seem to get the credit they deserve
Will
Haha, the politicians that called them idiots probably feel a bit daft themselves now anyway
Alex
For you Pistol fans we’ll talk more about them in detail on a later show
Will

But here they are, this is Holidays in the Sun

MUSIC: Holidays in the Sun- Sex Pistols

Alex
Always a good way to start a show

Will
Incredible talent, written by a combination of the band members

Alex
Their first track on their debut album,

Will
From the 70’s and still has an impact now
Alex
Well the pistols had an influence on our next band too
Will
Unfortunately these guys might be the last of the big punk bands, well for now at least
Alex
Formed as long back as 1986, their first album was released in 1990 called 39/Smooth
Will
But you’ll probably know them for their first big album, Dookie in 1994
Alex
Of course it’s Green Day
Will
Started off in their early career as a real punk band, some argue that they went off the genre in their later albums, but Dookie is definitely one of the definitive punk albums of the later punk years
Alex
Their best selling album was American Idiot, but I think Dookie blows it out the water
Will
Yeah I think I’d agree with you, I prefer it over American Idiot too, let us know on our Twitter which your favourite Green Day album is
Alex
We’ll check out some of your comments later in the show so keep em clean guys
Will
Right the song we’re going to play is When I Come Around
Alex
Love this song, love the intro, one of my favourites on the album
Will
Same here, definitely one that people recognise, really grungey punk guitaring, seems lazy like the image they put across
Alex
Here it is then

MUSIC: Green Day- When I Come Around
Will
What a great song, could listen to that one again
Alex
Right, it’s the time in the show where we ask you guys a question
Will
What was your favourite decade for Punk Music?
Alex
Was it the start of it with the Seeds and The Kinks in the 60’s, Or is it the modern stuff of the 90’s and 2000’s
Will
I reckon my favourite is the 90’s I think it was a good decade for punk revival
Alex
Nirvana, Blink, Green Day, yeah I can see where you’re coming from
Will
And the Pixies too, I just think these bands gave something new and different to punk that hadn’t been done before
Alex
See I think my favourite was the 70’s. The Clash, Sex Pistols, Joy Division, all my favourite classic artists
Will
Yeah I think it’s between those two for me, some great albums from the 70’s
Alex
I just think albums like London Calling, Raw Power and Unknown Pleasures are hard to beat by any forms of music

LO2 Task 3 Production Schedules

Week 9 8th June-12th June

Monday
Have a meeting about the show
Wednesday
Do first show

Unfortunately, due to Sheffield Live! being a community radio station and due to me not having a full time job, there will be no budget for my show. The money from the adverts will go towards Sheffield Live! to help them buy new things for the station. This means I will have to make full use of all the technology that Sheffield Live! have to offer. The launch date for the Show will be Wednesday 10th June, therefore a meeting will be had before that date to alter anything that needs changing on the show.
